FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about files, privacy, limits and Bengali support. If something is still unclear, ask us.
Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. PDF, image, file and data tools run in your browser. There is no code path that sends the file to a server. Only AI text and contact messages leave the browser, and each is disclosed first.
Is FilePolish really free?
Yes. Local tools have no sign-up, paywall or watermark. AI tools have rate and size limits to control provider cost, but they do not require payment.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no account, email address or password. Your settings live only in your browser's local storage.
What is sent when I use an AI tool?
Only the text you provide. PDF tools extract text locally first; the PDF itself never leaves the device. You see a notice and give one-click consent before the first run. We do not log prompts or store results.
How good is the Bengali support?
The whole interface is available in Bengali. Bengali text added to PDFs is shaped with OpenType layout and an embedded Noto Sans Bengali font, so conjuncts do not break. Text extraction from old PDFs that use legacy Bijoy fonts may still be limited.
Does it work offline?
Once a tool has loaded, local work continues without a network connection. Install FilePolish as an app and the shell plus the tools you have opened stay available offline. AI tools always need the internet.
What is the file size limit?
There is no artificial limit. The real limit is your browser's memory. Large files trigger a warning first, and an out-of-memory failure stops with a plain-language message.
Will my output have a watermark?
No. We do not add a watermark, branding bar or logo to any output.
Can I really edit text inside a PDF?
Yes, within honest limits. We remove the original text-run operators instead of covering them, and only when PDF.js text items map cleanly to those operators. Complex layouts become read-only rather than being edited unsafely. Added objects become ordinary page content, not editable annotations.
Can I add Bengali text to a PDF?
Yes. The PDF editor and watermark tools shape Bengali with Noto Sans Bengali and embed it in the export, so conjuncts stay intact. Page numbers use Latin digits and Helvetica; Latin-only editor text also uses Helvetica. Bijoy-to-Unicode conversion is ready.
Can Word or Excel files be converted to PDF?
High-fidelity Office conversion is not feasible fully in the browser. Those tools are deliberately left out; if a server-side option is added later, it will be disclosed clearly. CSV to Excel data tools are feasible and planned.
What do you track?
No tracking, fingerprinting or advertising cookies. The Support Kori donation widget does not load until you choose Support Me; once opened, its provider may set its own cookies and load its own services, including Google Firestore and Meta. Standard hosting logs such as IP address and time may exist for security, never the content of your files.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. Layouts work from 360px wide, with 44px touch targets. Very large files can exhaust mobile memory faster, so the size warning matters more there.
How do I report a bug or request a tool?
Use the contact page to send a message. Tell us the browser, the file type and what happened. The message goes through Resend; please do not attach the file. If we need a sample, we will ask first.
