About
A quiet toolkit, built in the open
FilePolish is an independent project for fast file jobs where privacy is not an optional feature.
Why it exists
Students, office workers and freelancers get stuck on small file jobs every week: joining two PDFs, shrinking a photo for a form, changing a data format. Many sites turn those jobs into an upload, an account and a watermark. FilePolish takes the opposite path: do the work where the file already is.
The principles we do not compromise on
Privacy by default
Do the work on the device whenever it is possible. When it is not, say so before anything leaves the browser.
Limits are documented
What a tool cannot do belongs in the UI and the docs, not in a support email after it fails.
Bengali is first-class
Interface copy, fonts and shaping are tested separately. Translation is not a machine pass over English.
Available to everyone
Free, no account, from a 360px phone to a desktop, with keyboard support and dark mode.
How it is being built
In phases, with tests. PDF work uses pdf-lib and pdf.js; Bengali shaping uses OpenType layout with Noto Sans Bengali; OCR will use Tesseract. All are MIT or OFL licensed. MuPDF is AGPL and is deliberately not used. Every phase ends with lint, type checks, unit tests and a production build.
Where it is now
Phase 8 is complete: 71 local tools plus 23 AI writing tools. Sign, redact, forms, OCR and document conversion all run on your device; AI tools ask for consent before any text leaves it.
